Spice for Life Organic Liquorice Powder

Licorice is originally from the Mediterranean and Asia Minor. This powder, however, comes from organic cultivation in Ireland.

The perennial, herbaceous plant can reach a height of 1 meter high. In autumn the roots can be harvested as this part of the plant has the highest percentage of glycyrrhizin. Glycyrrhizin is responsible for the special flavor of the powder and has more sweetness than sugar. Licorice was used in the Middle Ages as a remedy. Later, sugar was added, allowing the candy to grow in popularity.

Ideal for sweetening tea, licorice can also be used as a dessert spice. It goes well with jam or chocolate, fish, meat and pasta dishes.
