Special food for babies who spit up a lot

Description

It is not uncommon for babies to spit up a small amount of food after meals. However, if your baby throws up large amounts in a gush, has to eruct frequently or seems uncomfortable after meals, please consult a paediatrician.

If a thickener is recommended for your baby's food, Aptamil's ANTI-REFLUX Thickener can be fed before a meal or added to a bottle feed. It contains locust bean gum which is a natural thickening agent that makes milk smoother so that it does not easily flow back into the oesophagus and remains in the stomach.

Dosage and preparation: You can mix the thickener with boiled water, baby formula or expressed breast milk. Please follow the manufacturer's dosage recommendations precisely. Use only the measuring spoon provided with the pack to measure out the powder (one level measuring spoon = 1.7 g powder).

Method Anti-reflux thickening powder (level measuring spoons) Lukewarm breast milk or baby milk (in ml)
Bottle feeding 1 100
Feeding with a spoon * 1 25

* Feed the thickener as a paste before or during a milk/formula feed or other baby food. Instead of breast or baby milk, you can also use boiled drinking water for feeding with a spoon.

  1. Thickening of breast milk: Add the thickener to freshly pumped breast milk according to the dosage chart. Shake the bottle for 30 to 60 seconds, then let it rest for 7 minutes to allow the milk to thicken. Shake again and feed.
  2. Thickening of baby milk: Prepare baby formula as usual according to the manufacturer's instructions. Then proceed as with expressed breast milk (add the appropriate amount of thickner according to the doage chart, shake the bottle, let rest for 7 minutes, shakkge again and feed.)
  3. Spoon feeding: This method is recommended for babies who are breastfed or who are already eating solids. Mix the powder with the liquid (take the appropriate amount of thickener according to the chart) to form a smooth paste and let it thicken for 3 minutes before stirring it again. You can spoon-feed this paste before or during the meal.
