German packaging: Bio Einkornbrot mit Einkorn Vollkornmehl

Einkorn is considered an "ancient" grain as it has been grown in Asia as far back as 10,000 years ago. Recently the grain has become popular again with health-conscious people. It contains lots of healthy micro-nutrients, amino acids, and minerals. It's also rich in beta-carotene and is easy to digest. It also has a slightly sweet, nutty taste that makes the grain an excellent alternative to wheat, especially for making delicious bread!

This handy baking mix makes it very easy to bake delicious bread, even if you are not an experienced baker. The mix is made without any artificial flavours, dyes or preservatives.

For one small loaf (500 g) you need:

  • 1 baking mix
  • 210 ml of water

Resting time for the dough: 105 - 120 minutes

Baking time: approx. 10 min at 230 ° C + approx. 20 min at 190 ° C (electric)

  1. Open the freshness seal on the can. Pour the mix into a large bowl. Add 210 ml of lukewarm water (you can use the can as a measuring cup and just fill it up to the water line). Knead the dough by hand or with a mixer for 3 minutes.
  2. Cover the bowl and place it in a warm place (approx. 24 ° C) for 45 - 60 minutes so that the dough can rise.
  3. Flour your work surface or proofing basket (if you have one).
  4. When the dough is done, place it on your floured surface and fold the dough in from the edges towards the centre. You can do so using your hands or a dough shaper. Roll the dough into a ball and place it seam down in your proofing basket or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Dust the dough with a little flour, cover it again and let it rest for about 60 minutes.
  6. While the dough is rising, you can preheat the oven to 230 ° C (electric). It is best to do this about 40 minutes before the end of the resting period.
  7. Once the dough has risen, place it on a baking tray or stone. Score the top of the bread with a sharp knife to release the steam while it's baking. You can also cut a pattern into your bread using the knife.
  8. Bake the bread for 10 minutes at 230 ° C. Then reduce the heat to 190 ° C and bake for another 20 minutes.
  9. Take the finished bread out of the oven, let cool on a wire rack and enjoy!
