Vanilla
Vanilla planifolia
Everyone knows and loves the taste of vanilla - sweet, yet richly complex. The smell is to die for - intense and comforting. Vanilla is used in Europe to refine desserts and make ice cream, chocolate, coffee, creams, pastries and more. In Texas, vanilla is often used for seasoning and refining savory dishes such as shellfish and meat dishes.
Origin:
Vanilla beans originate from a climbing orchid that is found mainly in Mexico, Guatemala and other countries in South America. Bourbon vanilla is characterized by very high quality. Nowadays vanilla is grown mainly in Madagascar, but is also grown on the islands of Reunion and Comoros.
