Marques de Tomares S.L. Rioja Reserva DOCa 2016

If you're looking for a recommendation for a good wine, this is it. Squeaky clean, light and with fantastic potential for ageing.

The history of Rioja is inextricably linked to that of Bordeaux: At the time of the phylloxera epidemic that ravaged their vineyards, the French turned to wines from the Rioja region. It is also thanks to these circumstances that barriques were introduced there.

A really good Rioja must be elegant and delicately spiced. It should not be too woody and the distinctive Tempranillo fruit must be clearly recognisable.

The Marques de Tomares Reserva has all of these qualities. A great fruity bouquet, a delicate touch of vanilla, light roasted flavours, plus a hint of leather and tobacco. Light and elegant on the palate, it is fruity with red berries with a juicy finish and fantastic spice.

2016 is a little more intensely fruity than the already fantastic 2015 vintage with deeper tannins. Makes a great impression overall and will continue to age well.
