Description

Fancy enjoying a real English tea time at home? Nothing could be easier! These scones are quick and simple to prepare. One tin makes around 6 organic scones, perfect to serve with tea or coffee.

In addition, you’ll need:

  • 75 g soft butter
  • 1 egg
  • 130 ml cold milk
  • Optional: 60 g frozen fruit

Method of preparation:

  • Remove the butter from the fridge 1 to 2 hours in advance or soften in the microwave for 30 seconds.
  • Preheat the oven to 165°C (fan).
  • Lightly beat the egg in a glass.
  • Take out the cinnamon sugar sachet and set aside.
  • Open the freshness seal and pour the baking mix into a large bowl.
  • Add the softened butter, 130 ml cold milk (see milk line on the tin), and half of the beaten egg to the baking mix. Knead the dough by hand, in a stand mixer, or in a Thermomix (20 sec / speed 6 using the spatula).
  • Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead briefly.
  • Without fruit: Shape the dough into a circle approx. 23 cm in diameter and 2 fingers thick.
  • With fruit: Roll out the dough (approx. 40 cm x 23 cm), scatter with frozen fruit, fold once, then shape into a circle approx. 23 cm in diameter and 2 fingers thick.
  • Cut the dough into triangle-shaped wedges with a large knife, place on a baking tray lined with baking paper, and brush with the remaining beaten egg.
  • Sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar from the sachet.
  • Bake for 24 minutes at 165 °C- Best enjoyed while still warm.

Tips:

  • Suitable frozen fruits to add include raspberries, blueberries, or mixed wild berries.
  • Freezing: Baked scones freeze well. To defrost, simply microwave for 1 minute.
  • Enjoy plain or as they are typically served in England, with clotted cream and jam.
