Description

The Lemon Myrtle tree is native to the Australian rainforests. The distinct, mild lemongrass, lemon and lime flavor of the leaves is very versatile. The leaves have the highest concentration of citrus known worldwide. The smell is refreshing and intensely lemony, like that of lemongrass. By grinding the leaves the taste is even stronger- its still lemony, but tastes more like lemon zest.

Lemon Myrtle has an extremely diverse taste as an addition to pepper blend (No.2), which enriches chicken, fish, and vegetarian dishes with the unique lemon flavor. It can also be used with sweet dishes and fruit salad. The spice powder made from the dried and ground leaves is suitable for adding to breads, pancakes, scones, muffins, butter cookies and cheesecake. The spice shouldn't be heated, or the essential oils can evaporate, so the spice should be used at the end of a recipe or for cold food preparation. Mix lemon myrtle in cooked rice or try the uniquely lemony flavor with fish or poultry. Even drunk as a tea, the refreshing lemon taste will delight you.
