This is a fresh, cold-pressed, virgin coconut oil with a mild coconut flavour. The oil is fairly traded from the Naturland Project in Sri Lanka. This "Virgin Coconut Oil" is a rare as it is pressed from the whole coconut- including the brown seed coat. It contains more valuable ingredients and is characterized by a particularly nutty coconut flavour.
For 10 years now, Ölmühle Solling has been working on the development of high-quality food products made from coconuts. In collaboration with the Coconut Research Institute (CRI) in Sri Lanka, a new and very gentle process for obtaining virgin coconut oil was developed in 2002. This process was presented at the International CRI general public conference in September 2004. "Virgin Coconut Oil" is abbreviated as "VCO" and has since made its way into our kitchens.
Coconut oil is the ideal, all-natural vegetable fat for cooking with a wok. Coconut oil is very versatile. Its natural composition makes it durable and very heat stable and also prevents the formation of trans fats when frying and baking. It does not splash and does not burn.
Virgin coconut oil has a mild coconut scent and flavour that tastes great with vegetarian dishes, meat and fish. The mild, nutty flavour typical of coconut oil goes well with many cold, warm and hot dishes.
As an alternative to butter and margarine, coconut oil is a good choice because does not contain (like all vegetable oils and fats) much cholesterol. If you like the mild coconut flavour, try it instead of butter on bread. Enjoy with whole grain bread and a pinch of salt for a hearty snack.
Ölmühle Solling initiates, supports and promotes scientific research and development on the topic of vegetable oils and fats and the effects they have on the human body. Their findings will be published, contributing to consumer education on the subject.
Although coconut oil contains a lot of saturated fat, the fats are made up of a majority of medium chain fatty acids, so-called MCTs (middle chain triglycerides). The lauric acid makes up almost half of the fatty acids from the coconut oil. This is the most digestible saturated fatty acid.
Since coconut oil just does not contain all of the things your body needs, you should keep a varied diet.
- Due to the fact that Öhlmühle Solling’s coconut oils are minimally processed, they contain materials that are usually filtered out for aesthetic reasons. These materials consist of small amounts of sugar or fibre from the coconut itself- from the material between the coconut shell and the fruit.
- When your oil is in liquid form, you don’t notice the sediments, but when it solidifies (at temperatures under 25°C), the sediment tends to fall to the bottom of the glass, leaving a light brown or slightly yellow ring. Please note that this discolouration is natural and does not in any way affect the quality or purity of the oil.
